Join Nanocomp as a Senior / Principal Optical Engineer in the Helsinki capital area, working on next-generation AR waveguide and meta-optics technologies. In this full-time role, you will contribute to the design and development of high-performance waveguide-based AR display systems and advanced optical components in close collaboration with manufacturing and verification teams. Responsibilities

  • Design and optimization of waveguide-based AR display systems
  • Design of meta-optical elements
  • Supporting and extending the capabilities of existing in-house simulation tools
  • Contributing to product requirements and specification documents
  • Contributing to technology roadmap development
  • Collaborating closely with manufacturing and verification teams to refine and validate optical designs

Requirements

  • M.Sc. or Ph.D. degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years (Senior) or 10+ years (Principal) of experience in optical design
  • Strong expertise in AR applications, diffractive optics, ray tracing, or computational physics
  • Deep understanding of optical design principles, including physical and geometrical optics, diffraction theory, polarization control, colorimetry, and imaging
  • Proficiency with commercial optical simulation tools such as Zemax, Lumerical, COMSOL, or similar
  • Familiarity with meta-optics design principles
  • Good English language skills, both spoken and written

Preferred

  • Industry experience with AR waveguide development
  • Familiarity with nanofabrication processes
  • Experience designing meta-surfaces or meta-lenses
  • Strong programming skills, such as Python, Matlab, or C/C++
  • Experience developing or customizing simulation codes
