Nanocomp Oy Ltd and Radiant Opto-Electronics (ROE) have entered into an agreement of 100% acquisition of Nanocomp. The acquisition will integrate the Micro- and Nano-Photonics technology of Nanocomp with the existing world-leading light guide product manufacturing at ROE and supplement ROE with over 25 years of extensive experience in various fields of micro diffractive or refractive structures.
Nanocomp was founded in 1997 and focused on manufacturing micro- and nano-structured films for consumer electronics. The production is based on UV roll-to-roll imprinting with in-house UV lacquer. Key technologies including optical design and direct laser lithography enable Nanocomp to produce complex freeform microstructures.
Founded in 1995, Radiant Opto-Electronics is the largest backlight unit assembly company in the world with key strategic capabilities of optical & structure design and 100% in-house mold design & fabrication. In the past decades, ROE has been the strategic partner for its customers because of the worldwide manufacturing capability (over 400,000 sq. meters combined) and strong customer support.
By combining the technical depth and world-class mass production strength of the two companies, ROE now can deliver one-stop service to customers in standard display market (tablet, laptop, and monitor), niche market (biomedical industry), and diversified market (automobile, E-paper, and more).
“The acquisition marked a critical milestone for Radiant Opto-Electronics’ commitment to expanding its light guide product portfolio and technical depth”, said ROE Chairman Pen-Jan Wang, “just like how we’ve been adding value for consumer IT display products, we will be able to create unprecedented value for automotive and AR/VR display customers”.
“Through this acquisition Nanocomp can utilize its technology in new application and market areas, which wouldn’t be possible without engagement such a global player as ROE. Naturally this merging will offer a place for expansion and significant growth”, said Nanocomp CEO and co-founder Dr. Veli-Pekka Leppänen.
